Colorado Springs
August 6 - 8, 2004
Flew to Denver Friday morning and drove to Colorado Springs. It's a
60 mile trip that took almost two hours. I've never been on a highway
before where people drive 15 miles BELOW the speed limit. Very frustrating
for us Cali-Texans used to high speeds. Despite how pretty it was, the
terribly slow driving would probably keep me from living there, or give
me severe road rage if I did. It didn't help that we were in a very slow
rental, so we couldn't zig through traffic like we could in our own cars
(I've never been so happy to get back to my car and Texas highways as
I was Sunday).
We were told several times that the Air Force Academy was closed to visitors due to the terror-mongering going on, but it wasn't. We wandered through the chapel and around a B-52D. We also toured the Olympic Training Complex and walked a bit through Garden of the Gods. We didn't have time to do the zoo, but friends went and it sounds cool enough that if I go back I'll definitely go there.
